The impressive Marienberg Fortress bears many interesting stories from various centuries. From the Prince’s Garden you can enjoy a breathtaking view onto the Old City of Würzburg. We follow the path through time from the celtic beginnings over construction and enlargement in medieval times until the completion of the fortress in early 18th century. You will learn about St. Mary’s church – the oldest Christian church of the region and at the same time Würzburg’s first Cathedral. You will hear details about the medieval draw well, about torture and dungeons, in which even the famous sculptor Tilman Riemenschneider was imprisoned for several weeks. Find out more about how the Swedish troops were able to capture the well-protected fortress in the course of 30-years-war!

The round tour can start either at the parking lot (if you travel with your own bus) or at any other meeting point. The Marienberg Fortress is in walking distance from the Old Main Bridge and can be reached from there in about 20-30 minutes. You can reach the hilltop also by Bus No. 9 (April-October)
