The oldest quarter of town has preserved its original character in many places. St. Burkard church at the foot of Marienberg hill is the oldest and next to Kilian&#8217;s Cathedral the most important romanesque monument in town. The church of the Teutonic Knights (Deutschhauskirche) is an outstanding example of the high gothic style in the whole region. At the same time it is one of the very few churches in W\u00fcrzburg that were not destroyed in World War II.
